Abano Terme
A tourist destination for over 2000 years for its thermal waters, Abano Terme, the most important and ancient thermal center in Europe, is located in an enchanting setting at the foot of the Euganean Hills and right in the heart of the Veneto region. Its name derives from the Greek “à ponos,” which means it relieves pain. So, even in its name, we find the city’s true vocation. It covers an area of 21.57 square kilometers and is mostly flat, averaging 14 meters above sea level, with the exception of some hills, like Mount San Daniele, atop which stands the charming Benedictine nunnery, easily reachable on foot from the thermal area, and Mount Ortone, at the base of which lies the eponymous settlement of Monteortone, which has grown around the Sanctuary of the Madonna. The climate in Abano is mild for most of the year, with an average annual temperature of 14°C. The sky is often sunny, and rainy days are more frequent in the autumn and spring. The city currently has over 19,000 inhabitants.
